Perfect Basmati Rice

Basmati rice is the  perfect accompaniment to many Indian dishes, you may find that your rice generally turns out too wet and sticky, or too dry. However, don’t let that put you off as I have the perfect recipe…

Ingredients:

The ratio of rice to water is: 1:2, I tend to find that 2 cups of rice is enough to feed a family of 4, with some leftovers. Remember, this recipe only works with basmati rice (I love to use tilda basmati…)

  • basmati rice
  • cold/ warm water
  • small amount of oil
  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)

Method:

  1. Soak the rice half an hour before you are planning on cooking
  2. Heat the oil in a saucepan, and add the jeera, stir until toasted
  3. Drain  the rice and add it to the saucepan along with the water, make sure the heat is high!!!
  4. Once the water boils, and bubbles to the top, turn the heat on to low
  5. When all of the water has evaporated, switch the heat off and serve hot as an accompaniment to any dish…
